Dad's Desk...
Well, we are kicking off a lot of new things with Stillwater Chapter; the start
of a new school year; a new newsletter, a new advisor (Mom Cook) and last but
not least, a new chapter Dad.
Dad Cook will be taking over for me as Chapter Dad this month. He comes with a
great pedigree; Stillwater DeMolay, former Oklahoma DeMolay State officer and
Chevalier, and a wife who wants to help (and knows enough about you guys to be
dangerous !).
It has been a fantastic three years for me as chapter Dad. We have accomplished
a lot; revitalized our chapter with new members, won Exemplary chapter at
Conclave, had one of our members elected to state office, had three selected as
Chevaliers, and won numerous ritual competitions at the state and national
level. But more importantly, Stillwater Chapter has earned the respect and
admiration of Masonic youth from around the state. Every DeMolay, Rainbow and
Jobs Daughter knows who you are and what you do, and that makes me very proud.
But there are tough challenges ahead. There are chapters out there that want to
knock you off the hill as ritual champions. Your response should be “Bring it
on !” You goal (and my challenge to you), is to become the first chapter in
Oklahoma in A LOT OF YEARS that can do the Initiatory and DeMolay degrees. That
will require some work from you, but I know you can do it.
The important thing for you also to remember is; DeMolay is not all
memorization work. Keep the chapter involved in doing fun things, or membership
will drop off. If you are not looking forward to coming to DeMolay meetings and
activities, then something is wrong and you need to change it. This is YOUR
organization.
I won’t be going anywhere… I will still be around for meetings, and hauling you
guys all over creation. My pledge to you is that I will be there to offer
advise when you want it, but to let Dad Cook be the chapter Dad I know he can
be. I have had my turn in the sun, and now it is my role to support him so that
he and you can receive the continued recognition you deserve.
There are good times ahead, so get ready !
- Dad Singleton
